Up until recently, there were no such courses, and those seeking education on psychedelics had to research on their own, attend conferences, read available journal articles and books, or join secret psychedelic societies. With international psychedelic research currently at full throttle and now accepted as a genuine, revived field of science, university courses on psychedelics are also on the rise.
The key learning outcomes for university courses are to provide students with a rich history of psychedelics, educate them on both the positive and negative aspects of these substances, and to teach them how to properly read a scientific article, review the research methods and understand the limitations. Additionally, students will also learn about the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, their mechanisms of action, and their effects on cognition, creativity, hormones, and mental well-being.
