Course Description
Psychedelic Research RUG offers an intensive, week-long exploration into the burgeoning field of psychedelic studies, facilitated by a collaboration among UMCG, the Netherlands Indegeest Netwerk, and seven other academic institutions.
The course is designed for those keen on neuroscience and multidisciplinary research methodologies, providing them with up-to-date knowledge from various academic disciplines, including cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry, psychopharmacology, anthropology, and philosophy. The curriculum covers theoretical frameworks and delves into the practicalities of conducting psychedelic research, such as study design and ethical considerations. Participants engage in lectures from field experts and partake in interactive workshops, culminating in a group-based research design project that they present for expert and peer review.
By the end of the course, students will have a nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in psychedelic research, from the neurochemical mechanisms to the broader socio-cultural implications. They will gain hands-on experience in formulating research questions, designing experimental setups, and critically evaluating methodologies in the field.

About Instructor
Tatayo (“Fruit of the Wind”) first arrived in Gabon in 1971 at the age of 21 and became a Gabonese citizen. In 1979, he became the first white person to be initiated into the Bwiti Fang tradition in Gabon. In 1994, he was initiated into the Misokko tradition. As a guide for numerous expeditions and missions, including those of National Geographic, the BBC, and others, Tatayo is considered to have “opened the door” to westerners in Gabon.
