Course Description

Psychedelic Research RUG offers an intensive, week-long exploration into the burgeoning field of psychedelic studies, facilitated by a collaboration among UMCG, the Netherlands Indegeest Netwerk, and seven other academic institutions.

The course is designed for those keen on neuroscience and multidisciplinary research methodologies, providing them with up-to-date knowledge from various academic disciplines, including cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry, psychopharmacology, anthropology, and philosophy. The curriculum covers theoretical frameworks and delves into the practicalities of conducting psychedelic research, such as study design and ethical considerations. Participants engage in lectures from field experts and partake in interactive workshops, culminating in a group-based research design project that they present for expert and peer review.

By the end of the course, students will have a nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in psychedelic research, from the neurochemical mechanisms to the broader socio-cultural implications. They will gain hands-on experience in formulating research questions, designing experimental setups, and critically evaluating methodologies in the field.

The course is a comprehensive introduction to the scientific and humanistic aspects of psychedelic studies, equipping participants with the tools to contribute meaningfully to this rapidly evolving area of inquiry.
