Naropa University

Naropa University, a trailblazer in the field of contemplative education, is home to the Naropa Center for Psychedelic Studies (NCPS). This innovative center focuses on psychedelic-assisted care and sacred encounters, with the aim of alleviating suffering and enhancing the human experience. The NCPS offerings are grounded in contemplative training and compassion practices—an orientation the university believes is essential for ethical and engaged psychedelic therapists. In line with Naropa's commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, the Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies program builds meaningful relationships with Indigenous partners and encourages authentic conversations with faculty from diverse communities.

The 2023 Naropa University Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies is an 8-month, 200-hour, non-degree program designed for advanced professionals in relevant therapeutic areas. Trainees receive an in-depth education in essential aspects of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, trauma-informed care, and spiritual integration. With a focus on MDMA, ketamine, and psilocybin therapies, the program incorporates a hybrid delivery model that combines online and intensive retreat-based learning, deeply rooted in ethics, psychedelic justice, and Indigenous reciprocity. The university collaborates with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies Public Benefit Corporation (MAPS PBC) to offer education intended to raise awareness about the therapeutic approach and treatment modalities in MAPS-sponsored clinical trials investigating MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD.

As North America's leading institution of contemplative education, Naropa University is uniquely positioned to provide an innovative, experiential learning approach that is community-based, mindfulness-infused, and socially engaged. The Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies program, like all education at Naropa, is grounded in integrated mindfulness and compassion practices. Trainees also gain a deep understanding of social justice principles, the historical roots of Indigenous plant medicine practices, and the powerful relationship between healing and spirituality.
