Course Description
Somatics in the Context of Medicinal Plants is an integrative approach to the inter-being and will be taught by Barbara Carlsen. The course will be conducted online, in English (Spanish translations), and will consist of 6 meetings of 2 hours each.
The course aims to provide an understanding of how body awareness practices can optimise and improve the integration of master plants in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. The course is designed to work with somatic, autonomic, and limbic processing systems activated in psychedelic and psychoactive states. The course will be useful to psychotherapists, clinicians, advocates or researchers working in the field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
Additionally, it could benefit yoga teachers, dance therapists, or others working in wellness practices. The course will cover topics such as the new science of interconnection and inter-being through corporeal practices, the historical legacies and cultural contexts of contemporary culture that affect corporeality and inter-being, the neurobiology of somatic therapies and its application to neuroplasticity and the reconnection of a new reality, and how to use embodiment practices and other tools to support integration with self and others.
By participating in this course, students are expected to understand the new science of interconnection and inter-being through corporeal practices, understand the historical legacies and cultural contexts of contemporary culture that affect corporeality and inter-being, learn the neurobiology of somatic therapies and its application to neuroplasticity and the reconnection of a new reality, know how to prepare for and optimize a non-ordinary/psychoactive state using bodily practices and somatic approaches and understand how to use embodiment practices and other tools to support integration with self and others.
